Painting, Booth 1033
All of my work draws from my close observations of our physical world. In these paintings, lines and shapes distilled from echoes in sound and water are abstracted and become a visual language for exploring our stories. Using brushstrokes, drawing and glazes, I create complex interactions of marks on the surface, reflecting our interactions with each other and our world. Slowly each painting accumulates meaning, narrative and beauty. Born in Kingston, Ontario, Janet lives and works between Toronto and Gravenhurst. She earned a BFA in painting from Queen’s University, then took a short, but absorbing thirty-year detour into graphic design, typography, animation, game creation, web design, and photography. In 2016 Janet returned to fine art and has been building her studio practice since then. Her work is held in collections in the US and Canada, and has been seen in Style at Home magazine and on HGTV Home Tours.
