Painting, Booth 805
Court Swartz is a Toronto based artist and O.C.A.D. University Alumnus. Having a longstanding background in realist painting Swartz was inspired to move into three-dimensional space, searching for a medium that enables the appearance of movement within the work as the viewer’s vantage point moves. These themes are explored through abstract painting and sculpture. Swartz suspends sculptural forms of paint within clear prisms of hand cast acrylic glass. The surfaces of these abstract sculptures have been selectively clarified, allowing internal elements to be concealed and revealed. There is no single or immediate way to experience the piece. Every angle exposes a different refraction of the brushstrokes contained in the sculpture. The exploration of the spaces and optical effects within faceted sculptures has inspired this series of abstract paintings.
