Painting, Booth 315
I was born and raised in Sicily and graduated with honours from the Academy of Fine Arts of Brera in Milan. Before moving to Canada in 1998, I worked in Milan, Rome, and New York as an art director. At first glance, my paintings are reminiscent of a classical art style. I use elements of Mannerism to make my paintings feel physically and psychologically surreal. I also add Baroque qualities like sensuous richness, grandeur, and easily interpreted detail to produce drama and tension. My classical style and compositions are disrupted by contemporary iconography that reflects the way I see humans interacting with and altering the environment.
