Painting, Booth 1003
As a painter and landscape architect I have developed a disciplined protocol for assessing landscape, interpreting scale and space, natural elements and systems. My recent paintings focus on capturing fleeting light, movement and gesture, influenced by field sketches and paintings, and translated into larger pieces in my Hamilton based studio. In the studio, I allow the underpainting-the tonality- to come through, achieving a sense of atmosphere. I strive to convey my impression of place, through the play of light, colour, form and texture. I have a deep appreciation and respect for natural places. My recent work focuses on my love of trees captured in sweeping gestural brush strokes.
